This Masters programme aims to equip students with practical and analytic skills in quantitative and qualitative research. A core focus is on building a comprehensive set of skills that can be applied to the social research context. This is achieved through training in devising, conducting, analysing and communicating research. The course is designed for graduates in the social sciences who want to develop their research skills and gain employment in the area of research. It is equally suited to those who wish to build research skills for application in a range of work environments. The course also provides a strong foundation for further post-graduate study, particularly for PhD research.
Using a combination of lectures, workshops and practical assignments, the M.Sc. in Applied Social Research trains graduates to:
- Design and conduct primary social research using both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
- Analyse research data using a variety of computer packages.
- Write and present research findings to a range of audiences.
