Join us for a march, lobby of Parliament and rally on 11 May.
The March
Thousands of disabled people as well as family and friends will be
marching to express solidarity and anger at the cuts threatening our
benefits, services, jobs and rights.
The march will take us past the Houses of Parliament and we will make
sure that MPs and Peers hear our collective voice and understand our
message.
The Lobby
After the march many of us will be lobbying our MPs as the Welfare
Reform Bill reaches a critical stage in the House of Commons.
We will be sharing our stories, making sure that Parliamentarians
understand the combined impact of the cuts on our lives and futures.
Crucially, we will be challenging MPs to vote against policies that
will push us further into poverty and isolation.
The Rally
On the afternoon of the march we will meet in Methodist Central Hall
to hear from disabled people about the deep unfairness of the cuts
for their lives and futures.
We will also listen to politicians from the main political parties to
find out how they plan to uphold the rights, equality and
participation of disabled people as promised in the UN Convention on
the Rights of People with Disabilities.
Where and When
We will gather for the march from 11.30 on the Embankment by
Horseguards Avenue.
It will start at 12.30 and take in Victoria Embankment, Bridge
Street, Parliament Square, Millbank and finish in Dean Stanley Street
at around 13.30.
We expect the lobby to take place in Westminster Hall and to run
between 14.30 and 17.30. Everyone hoping to see their MP during the
afternoon is encouraged to write in advance to get an appointment.
The rally will take place in Methodist Central Hall (close to the
Houses of Parliament) with speeches between 15.00 and 15.30.
What do you need to do?
• Come along on 11 May and bring your family and friends! We hope for
at least 10,000 people on the march.
• Register by visiting the UKDPC website at www.ukdpc.net to let us
know that you’re coming and what access needs you have.
• If you’re planning to lobby your MP, write to request a meeting.
You’re much more likely to get to see them if you do.
• If you want to come to the rally, book a place by visiting the
UKDPC website www.ukdpc.net Space is limited!

Like I have said to the UK DPC I feel angry, sad and let-down at a lot of people within UK DPC and others organisations who would not join DAN, Autistic and NeuroDiverse Rights, Mental Health Survivors Movements and others in warning them about this nearly 16 years ago. Would they listen? NO!!! A lot of these people 'sold their souls to the devil on the cheap' by taken funding from 'the-state' and their representatives organisations and was more interested in their own professional career paths (careerism), then the wider grassroots Disabled Peoples' movement.
I would not stand on (alongside) the stage (on marches) with many of the individuals within the UK DPC, except Rachel and Tara, because of their oppressive and abusive behaviour towards many of us within the grassroots disability activist, autistic/neurodiverse and mental health survivors movements.
I would (and still will ) not 'sell-out' my own personal beliefs, principles and religious/spiritual and political values on the cheap.
Tell me again where are the Offices of UK DPC based(???).... Who are they 'in-bed' with?
UK DPC have no strategy at all and do not understand 'real-inclusion' have I just witnessed on the phone talking with them
How do they intend to include many disabled people like myself who are 'housebound' or live across the UK and further a field and many disabled people can't travel to London due to inaccessible transport, hotels/accommodation and that many are too bloody poor to attend this protest
Can I hear echoes from the 'ghosts' within the grassroots movements who warned you all about this; many of my friends who gave their lifes' to the cause!!!
Like I have said the cuts are unlawful under International law and Adrian Whyatt and I spoke at the European Social Forum 2003 in London and had negotiated and set-up meetings with Shami Chakrabarti/Lee Rodwell at Liberty for UK DPC RADAR ,DisLib, DAN and many more to discuss these basic human rights and civil liberties issues that impact on our lifes', but as many of you know my health and wellbeing has been very poor in the last 2/3 years and I left it with others to arrange this meeting with Shami/Lee at Liberty, but in my absence this great opportunity has not been taken-up.... Why? I spoke with Lee and Adrian only on this only yesterday!!!

Dear colleagues
I have to pass on some rather sad news, which is that Skill: National Bureau
for Students with Disabilities, has announced its closure. Skills has been a
great champion of further and higher education for students with
disabilities for some 40 years, providing guidance and support and keeping a
close watch on national policy. It has played a hugely important role in
improving access to post-16 education.
We now wait to see how this huge gap might be filled , I am sure that many
organisations will want to ensure that the work continues in some form. I am
sure we would also want to send our best wishes to the 23 staff who have
lost their jobs.
The announcement is below

*Skill Closes*
It is with great sadness that Skill: National Bureau for Students with
Disabilities announces that it has ceased operating. Following a period of
financial difficulty, Skill's Board of Trustees has decided that it is no
longer viable to keep the charity open.
The Chair of Skills' Board of Trustees, Peter Little OBE said "This is sad
day for all of us. We had recently appointed an outstanding new Chief
Executive and agreed a clear strategy to reduce our costs and turn around
our finances, but in the end time was against us".
Skill is the only pan disability charity that focuses on promoting equality
for disabled people in education, training and employment. It is hoped that
others may step in to fill the gap this has left in the support available.
All Skill's website resources and information
booklets<http://www.skill.org.uk/page.aspx?p=106&c=10>are still
available
