We are proud to announce the next George Ewart Evans Centre for
Storytelling annual symposium on Storytelling and Translation, which
will take place at the Atrium, Cardiff on 6th and 7th May 2011. We
would be delighted to see you there.
Stories give us a space in which to exchange and share, to create
empathy and to explore differences. We have chosen Storytelling and
Translation as the theme for this year?s symposium and aim to
interpret this in the broadest possible sense. We hope this symposium
will provide a space to reflect on a broad range of translations,
adaptations and transformations and to engage with issues of place,
medium, intertextuality, language, and cultural specificity to name
just a few. We intend to engage with both academic and practice led
debates about how story can engage with these issues. We are delighted
to welcome to the centre a diverse range of speakers including Dr
Joseph Winston (University of Warwick), Dr Marta Minier (University of
Glamorgan), Arti Prashar (Theatre Director and Storyteller) and Prof
Mike Wilson (University College Falmouth). We are sure the speakers
will present a fascinating and challenging series of lectures and
provocations.
This is the fifth annual symposium at the George Ewart Evans Centre
for Storytelling. The centre has grown over the last six years and we
now have a significant range of activities from small events with
community groups through to major international partnerships and
research projects. We are dedicated to promoting, developing and
researching storytelling in all its forms.
