Hi,
Has anyone used the VTLS RDA sandbox? We signed up for it but haven't found much time to use it and I'm not sure if it works that well with our Network.
Thanks
Helen

Subject: Re: Vendor supplied records
On the general topic of LMS/OPAC etc, I wanted to point out a really great
project that Alan Danskin mentioned at the Exec Briefing.
http://www.dlib.indiana.edu/projects/vfrbr/ The Variations project at
Indiana University has created a test catalogue to look at the FRBR
conceptual model, since there isn't currently a "live" OPAC anywhere that
is fully FRBR-ised.
There is also the VTLS RDA sandbox - you do have to pay $60 for access til
the end of July but it is worth mentioning as a full library system
environment which allows libraries to create MARC records using RDA,
special documentation and 250,000 linked FRBR-ised records
http://www.vtls.com/services/rdasandbox
One of the frustrations is the lack of examples of OPACs or resource
discovery tools that actually use some of the new RDA features. I have yet
to see a good example of using the 336-338 fields in display in some way.
