Those of us with older (i.e. pre-AACR2) collections have significant
quantities of bibs with pre-AACR2 descriptions but containing hdgs
formulated to AACR2. How often do we even stop to think about that, let
alone lose sleep over it? As for the problems it causes - I'm struggling
to think of anything substantive! Mixing descriptive data from one code
and access points from another (or more than one...) is commonplace, and
something that a few people on other mailing lists have chosen to ignore
(esp when it suits them).
