FACULTY OF HUMANITIES
DEPARTMENT OF ANTHROPOLOGY AND ARCHAEOLOGY
LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN ANTHROPOLOGY (ONE POST)
In

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be required to:
●
Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, particularly in the
fields of Economic Anthropology and/or the Anthropology of Development;
● Develop curricula for, and co-ordinate, programmes at
undergraduate and postgraduate levels, particularly in the fields of
Economic Anthropology and/or the Anthropology of Development;
● Conduct and publish research in one or both of the fields identified above;
● Undertake academic administration and other tasks as determined by the Head of Department;
● Participate in the Department’s strategic initiatives relating to teaching, research and community engagement activities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
LECTURER:
● Master’s degree in Social or Cultural Anthropology;
●
Appropriate research and publication track record, particularly in the
fields of Economic Anthropology and/or the Anthropology of Development;
● Appropriate teaching experience;
● Appropriate language and communication skills;
● Good interpersonal and mentoring skills.
SENIOR LECTURER:
● Doctorate in Social or Cultural Anthropology;
●
Appropriate research and publication track record, particularly in the
fields of Economic Anthropology and/or the Anthropology of Development;
● Appropriate teaching experience;
● Proven postgraduate supervision skills at the appropriate level;
● Appropriate language and communication skills;
● Good interpersonal and mentoring skills.
RECOMMENDATION:
● Experience in the applied field of development.
The
annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s
level of qualification and experience, as determined by UP policy
guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and
contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
