University of Vienna, Department of Social and
Cultural Anthropology announces two PhD positions
(for 4 years) starting no later than September 1, 2011.
The candidates should have completed their MA in anthropology and/or
sociology and/or political science preferably with a thematic specialization on
migration and/or urban studies or legal anthropology; should have done
empirical work including fieldwork. German language is not a requirement but is
an advantage. The candidates are expected to work in designing, conducting and
evaluating research; cooperate in the organization of international workshops
and conferences and in the preparation of publications. Teaching is possible
after the 2nd year.
The University of Vienna
was founded in 1365 and is the oldest universityin the German-speaking world
and one of the largest in Central Europe. Atpresent, about 88,000 students are
enrolled in 180 courses at the University of Vienna. The University of Vienna
is also the largestteaching and research institution in Austria with 8,900
employees, 6,700 of whom are scientists and academics.

development plan the University of Vienna aims atstrengthening its position as

furthering the work of junioracademic colleagues, and high-caliber professorial
