There are two vacancies for a Statistician I in the Statistics and Clinical
Audit service of NHS Blood and Transplant, to be based at NHSBT's offices in
Stoke Gifford, Bristol. One of these posts is permanent, the other is fixed
term for 24 months. The appointments will be on Band 5 of the salary scale
(£21,176 - £27,625 pa), but new entrants to the NHS will usually be
appointed at the minimum of the band.
The Statistics and Clinical Audit service of NHSBT is responsible for the
design and analysis of studies in organ and tissue donation and
transplantation, blood donation and transfusion medicine. The service also
undertakes clinical audits of blood and transplantation services designed to
continuously improve the quality of care provided to donors and recipients
of organs and blood components. The analysis and interpretation of results
informs decision making on developments in donation, transplantation and
transfusion, the clinical care of donors and patients, and equity of access
to treatment.
These posts give an opportunity for recent or potential graduates from a
Masters programme in statistics, or an undergraduate programme with a
substantial statistical component, to join a large team of statisticians and
clinical audit staff and become involved in a wide range of statistical
activities. The posts will involve collaborative work with clinicians and
others working in organ transplantation, blood donation and transfusion
medicine and so the individuals appointed will have excellent communication
skills. The ability to work to deadlines, both individually and as part of
a team, is essential and some knowledge of the SAS software is desirable.
Informal enquiries about the post can be made to Professor Dave Collett, the
Associate Director of Statistics and Clinical Audit (email:

Statistician with a location of Bristol.
The closing date for applications is Wednesday, 4 May, 2011.
Interviews are expected to take place on Thursday 26 May, 2011.
