Visiting Fellowships and Scholarships In Jordan and Syria 2011-12
The Council for British Research in the Levant (CBRL) aims to promote, sponsor and carry out high-quality research in the humanities and social sciences throughout the countries of the Levant.
Applications are invited for the following award schemes:
Visiting Senior Research Fellowships
To enable established scholars in university posts to spend a period of three or six months in the Levant based at The British Institute in Amman and/or in Damascus to conduct primary research, develop contacts, give lectures, and write up project results. There is a small teaching replacement budget available.
Visiting Fellowships are available for early career postdoctoral candidates (within three years of the award of PhD) to enable them to spend a period of either six or twelve months based at the British Institute in Amman and/or in Damascus to conduct primary research, develop contacts, give lectures, and work on publications derived from their thesis. The Fellowship includes the option of a three month Arabic course at the Qasid Language Institute in Amman. A monthly subsistence stipend is included.
Visiting Scholarships are available for students conducting PhD/DPhil research to enable them to spend a period of either six or twelve months based at the British Institute in Amman and/or in Damascus to conduct primary research, develop contacts, and write up research. The Scholarship includes the option of a three month Arabic course at the Qasid Language Institute in Amman. A monthly subsistence stipend is included.
All Fellowships and Scholarships include accommodation, a small research budget, return flights from the UK to Amman, and travel insurance. Applicants for Senior Visiting Fellowships must be employed at a UK HEI, applicants for a Visiting Fellowship must be British or normally resident in the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands, applicants for Visiting Scholarships must be registered on a full-time doctoral degree in a UK university.
