Many thanks to all of you that replied to my email (32 so far) on this
matter and everyone who replied stated that they treated all users of
their library services the same with regards to fines and losts - good
to see that we are all singing from the same hymn book so to speak.
My next question is do any institutions have sanctions that they levy on
staff for non payment or do you invoice through your finance department
and is it to the individual or the department that pays?
Here at Lincoln with regards to students we statement them three times a
year (coinciding with student loans) 14 days after their statement if
they have not paid then they are locked out of their account until it is
and the last statement has to be paid in full or they cannot re-enrol or
graduate!.
However we do not do this for staff (at present) as we have no sanction
in place or mechanism to charge them i.e. invoice. I am therefore at
present seeing what the library community does in such situations so I
can write a proposal to the senior managers to address the
inconsistencies.
Any information either through the list or direct to me would be much
appreciated.
