Hi Helen
We don't currently outsource any of our authority work ; it's all done in-house. So my concerns are in headings where legacy data is likely to conflict with new headings, as I understand it. For instance I don't relish changing all of those headings where 'Dept' will now change to 'Department', not to mention the changes in the headings for the bible, etc. Maybe I will have to look again at outsourcing.

Hi Rosemary,
In terms of authority control I am going to suggest that we go with headings provided by LC -whether RDA or AACR2 formatted. We have some authority control work done externally by Marcive. I've been in touch with them and they assure me that they are ready to work with RDA, so I am hopeful that will address some of the issues for us.

I think that in addition to any training documentation exchanged, seminars are very useful as they allow us to exchange experiences of we are doing regarding implementation, the problems encountered (and their solutions), changes to workflow, training, etc.
Other issues which concern me are : what are others doing regarding legacy data, particularly as it relates to authority control ; display issues for the OPAC ; the need to pass on information of these changes to non-cataloguing staff.

I'm sure that there will be loads of suggestions for training and documentation from other people. One thing that we feel is key is that it doesn't involve huge amounts of travelling. Budgets are tight here and we can't afford to send multiple members of staff to events in London (not to mention the time away from work), so I think we would ideally like the regional CIG groups to run events around the country so that people can go to something close to them. In addition to this, a backbone of clear electronically accessed materials with lots of examples, and not just text based.

I'm surprised nobody has any suggestions/request for training or documentation that could be developed by CIG for future RDA or FRBR training - now's the time to draw up a wishlist!
What would you like to see covered? In what kind of format would you like to see it delivered? How would you consider offering training within your institution?
