We are reviewing our use of 3 letter suffixes in our call numbers that denote the author, title or subject of an item. I am interested how others apply these suffixes and if there are any particular guidelines that they follow - I can't seem to find anything authoritative on this subject anywhere.
In particular, I wonder if anyone has a list of Dewey numbers where the biographical subject is more appropriate to use for the suffix - not just for the more obvious ones, such as artists in the 700s, but for other areas, such as Philosphers in the 190s. And how common is it to use a dual lettering system that includes both biographical and author suffixes in one call number?
I would be grateful to hear from anyone who is happy to share their current practice.
Many thanks
