There is 1 position open for a Post-Doctoral Scholarship in the R&D
Project funded by the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation
entitled “SAFENV: Predicting the Trade-offs between Safety and
Emissions for Road Traffic” (Ref. PTDC/SEN-TRA/113499/2009)
Scientific Area: Transportation / Energy
Admission requirements: PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer
Science, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Computer
Science or related fields.
Work plan:
The work is based on the evaluation of the trade-off between the
severity of the accident and performance in terms of energy and
environmental impacts. It is intended that the candidate will
specifically be responsible for several tasks of the project, which
include the following:
a) To participate in the supervising of students and research fellows
within the project;
b) To organize the data related to the project;
c) To develop a statistical analysis of the variables of road safety;
d) To participate in the modeling and multi-objective analysis, in
order to optimize the variables related with road safety and energy;
e) To prepare articles for publication in international journals.
Workplace: The work will be conducted at the Centre for Mechanical
Technology and Automation, Department of Mechanical Engineering at
University of Aveiro, Portugal, under the scientific guidance of
Professor Margarida Coelho.
Duration of scholarship: The scholarship has the duration of 12 months
and will begin in May 2011. The grant contract may be renewed up to a
maximum of 24 months.
Value of the scholarship: The amount of scholarship is € 1,495.00 per
month, according to the FCT scholarship values

Methods of selection:
Assessment of the Curriculum Vitae, with the following criteria:
- Experience on statistical analysis, particularly with the tools SAS
Enterprise Miner or SPSS (50%);
- Experience with modeling tools and programming (20%);
- Number and quality of scientific publications (20%);
- Previous experience in relevant areas to the Project (5%);
- Good oral and written English (5%).
If necessary, the evaluation committe can schedule an interview with
each candidate.
Deadline for submission of applications: the Call is open from March
18 to April 1, 2011.
