Abstract
Social and cultural issues lie at the heart of the transport and accessibility challenges of all contemporary societies, affecting individuals, households, communities and wider society as a whole. Traditionally, the social impacts of transport have been much less well understood and articulated than economic and environmental factors. More recently, the behavioural and social sciences have undertaken a wide range of research to address this shortfall. The presentation will offer an overview of past studies and current progress in this area and identify some challenges for future research.
