Dear Salvatore
It is so nice to hear from you every now and then!
Indeed, during 35 years we at Hietalinna community have had both alchohol
and drug abusers and recently also gamblers, all together in the same TC.
It has actually been an extra resource, since it gives clients a change to
focus on his individual type of dependency (social, spiritual,
psychological and fysical situation) and not so much on the substance or
behaviour (gambling) itself, and in that way it opens up new perspectives
to follow.
Also the means which clients have tried to solve these problems are not
that different from each other. So, there is much they can learn from each
other.
To have different dependency problems together and to connetct networks,
families etc, opens up nice new possibilities to everybody.
We also have used guite much training as a method in treatment. It is
easier to many family members to take part in "a two hour seminar" with
groupdiscussion or workshops insted of "therapy".
We have had the nicest sessions with professionals, clients and their
families alltogether in the same training course - lovely! The experience
comes with the clients, the "reality" comes with the families and the
skills and courage to raise issues comes with the professionals. I do
recommend!
Love
Katriina
PS. Do we see each other in Oxford?
