Dear List Members
I'd just like to draw your attention to the fact that the Australia Research Council is currently reviewing its journal rankings for the Australian Research Assessment exercise - the ERA. In the last exercise Surveillance & Society was ranked 'C'. This is the lowest possible ranking for included journals. While the Research Assessment will only directly impact upon Australian scholars, it does also impact upon the standing of the journal in that part of the world, and will also influence the quality of submissions received from Australia. I am sure many who subscribe to this list will attest to the importance of this journal as an outlet for our research in the area of surveillance, and to the excellent scholarship that has appeared there since its inception.
The ARC is receiving public submissions on the rankings until Monday 4th April 4pm Australian Eastern Standard Time. I have been through the system and registered and it appears international submissions are accepted.
The link below contains a file that outlines the ranking criteria, and on those my assessment is that Surveillance& Society is more accurately a 'B' Journal, although a case could certainly be made that it is an 'A'.
I would encourage list members to make a submission to the Australia Research Council stating the rationale for raising the journal's ranking in Australia.
The link is here for those wishing to make a submission. You will need to register first to do so.

Best wishes
Dean
