Hi Mark and others with Depthmap questions,
Firstly, can I alert you to the existence of the Depthmap Jiscmail list, which may be better for technical questions:
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/depthmap
Now, for your problem: unfortunately this is an issue with the way Depthmap links to standard components in Windows (such as the open file dialog box).
When you install Depthmap, it should first install the standard components you need, and then install Depthmap itself. I have had yet to recreate problems installing it on Windows 7, but it seems you are not the only one who has encountered this problem.
You could try installing the standard components manually first, and then try installing Depthmap. Make sure the user you install with has administrator rights.
These are the standard components that Depthmap needs installed:

[Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)]
Do let me know by personal mail if this doesn't work and we can try to find out how to fix the error.
Best regards,
Alasdair
