Hi all,
need some wise opinions.
Had a gentleman who has been experiencing anxiety related symptoms like palpitations, pain across shoulder, cheat discomfort, etc. some months in 2010. First off sick in Oct.10 for 12 days. Following consultant appt. and various tests told he has ventricular bigeminy with no underlying cardiac disease and thus no treatment initiated. Consultant seems to think his palpitations, etc was self induced due to excessive exercises he was doing to lose weight. Not sick again until Feb.11 for 3 days. Left work as he got so worked up about increased heartbeats/chest pain. Attended A & E , ECG NAD. Even put on own sports heart monitor to keep check of his heartbeats. Saw GP nothing done. Then he experienced symptoms again, Saw GP yet again 3 days later . GP has now put him on beta blockers and he is to see consultant for a another review April 1st. He is convinced something more serious is wrong with him and keeps saying he will continue to seek reassurance about it. Already referred for CBT by GP - has had 4 sessions.
He is being monitored under Stage 1 of their attendance policy and now concerned that further absences will implicate his future employment. Thus he has told his manager he wants his absences considered under 'disability' and recorded differently. As per usual HR has referred to OH. When I saw him, he said that he has read all about the Equality Act. Wow , good for him.
My opinion, he is unlikely to fall under disability provisions at this juncture. I smell 'troublesome' case here , so would appreciate other opinions and comments please.
cheers
