We have a postdoctoral position opening effective immediately in experimental laser spectroscopy at the California Institute of Technology. The project involves high resolution diode laser spectroscopy using frequency stabilized cavity ringdown spectroscopy (FS-CRDS) and related techniques for line parameter measurements in support of satellite remote sensing measurements from NASA's Orbiting Carbon Observatory, OCO-2, and the Total Column Carbon Observing Network (TCCON). The position will involve constructing two laser spectrometers in a new laboratory and performing line intensity and lineshape measurements in the near-infrared. The successful candidate will also collaborate actively with scientists from the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and NIST. We seek a highly motivated recent Ph.D. with strong experimental skills, publications record, and a background in optical physics, high-resolution molecular spectroscopy, lock-loop electronics, and computer programming of experimental data acquisition (especially in LABVIEW), who have an interest in fundamental research applied to climate change problems. U.S. citizenship is preferred.
