14, 15, 16 June 2011
Hotel Metropole, Brighton, Sussex, England

Announcement of keynote speaker
The Association for Historical and Fine Art Photography (AHFAP) was
founded over 25 years ago and exists as a forum for UK photographers in
the cultural heritage sector. Very few of our colleagues in other parts
of the world have such an association that brings museum, gallery and
library photographers together. It is with this in mind that AHFAP
extends a welcome to photographers all over the world, who work in this
sector, to join in a conference to discuss cultural heritage
photography.
Professor David Arnold of Brighton University will deliver the keynote
address.
Professor David Arnold is Director of Research Initiatives and Dean of
Graduate students at the University of Brighton, UK. Founding
Editor-in-Chief for ACM JOCCH, Professor Arnold has had a 30-year career
of research in the design of interactive computer graphics systems and
their applications in architecture, engineering, cartography, scientific
visualisation, health and, for the past 10 years, cultural heritage. He
is currently the co-ordinator of the Integrating Project 3D-COFORM
(www.3d-coform.eu) - funded under the EC 7th Framework programme -
which aims to establish 3D documentation as an effective mechanism for
tangible cultural heritage. Previously, he co-ordinated the Network of
Excellence called EPOCH (www.epoch-net.org), under the EC Framework 6
programme. EPOCH focuses on the interaction between technology and
cultural heritage and brought together 94 partners. David was the last
‘international region representative’ on the Council of ACM and
is a past Chair of EUROGRAPHICS. He was Chief Editor of EG’s journal,
Computer Graphics Forum. Professor Arnold worked in international
standards for 10 years and is on the Council of the UK Parliamentary
Information Technology Committee (PITCOM).
Presentations are still welcomed in several formats:
30-minute in-depth presentations
10-minute short papers
Poster displays, either technical or creative
Online demonstrations (an open-room, stress-free way of giving a casual
presentation to delegates over coffee)
The purpose of the conference is to share experience of our work in
cultural heritage in its widest sense.
Panel sessions are programmed in the Metamorfoze guidelines, colour
management and rapid imaging projects, to encourage delegates to
participate in open discussions on these topics.
There will be a full social programme including an opera performance by
Open Door Opera. Visits to the Photographic Studios of the V&A, Tate
Gallery, National Gallery and British Museum in central London are
planned for the 17 and 20 June.
