Further to Nick's news re the sensational new standards wiki,

MCG'ers and their pals are especially encouraged to input to and promote
the Benchmarks in Collection Care section...

Benchmarks in Collection Care is currently under revision at
http://standards.collectionslink.org.uk/index.php/Collections_Link_Stand
ards_wiki.

Benchmarks is a management tool, used by museums, libraries and archives
to assess levels of collections care. It can be used to assess both
physical and digital collections.

Comments about appropriate digital standards or benchmarks for digital
collections are welcomed on the wiki.

You can leave comments on the General Comments wiki page at

Subject: Press Release: Collections Trust Launches Standards Wiki

Dear MCGer's,

Please see below a Press Release, issued today, announcing the launch of
the new Collections Trust Standards Wiki. Part of a programme of work
called Excellence in Collections, this wiki will be used initially as
the platform for the development of SPECTRUM 4.0, and latterly for
related standards for physical and digital collections.

We have opened up our standards work in this way in response to feedback
from people in museums, archives, and libraries and we are really
depending on you to pile in and collaborate, suggest new things and help
us shape the next generation of standards.

All best,

Nick

PRESS RELEASE

Collections Trust Launches Culture-sector Standards Wiki

London 09.03.2011 -- As part of the development of a new programme
called Excellence in Collections, the Collections Trust has announced
the launch of an innovative Standards Wiki, designed to help the UK and
international cultural community collaborate on the development of
next-generation standards.

Powered by the same software which runs Wikipedia, the Standards Wiki is
an open online platform through which people can share best practice,
discuss key challenges and collaborate on 'live' documents.

From launch, the Standards Wiki will enable the collaborative
development of SPECTRUM 4.0, the Collections Management standard that is
used by thousands of museums and cultural organisations worldwide. It
will also enable development of the new Benchmarks in Collections Care
2.0, a Collections Management assessment tool used by museums and
galleries. Over the next 12 months, the Standards Wiki will be used as
the platform for the review of the joint BSI/Collections Trust Code of
Practice for Collections Management.

Alex Dawson, Standards Programme Manager at Collections Trust,
commented: "Excellence in Collections is not about standardisation. It
is about delivering rich, sustainable experiences for the users of
museum, library, archive and gallery services.

The Standards Wiki is the first time that these sector-defining
standards have been made openly available for anyone to contribute to.
Our aim is to help unlock the knowledge and experience of thousands of
practitioners, and ultimately to deliver better cultural experiences for
everyone."

The Standards Wiki is now available at
http://standards.collectionslink.org.uk. Excellence in Collections will
be launched formally at the Collections Trust's OpenCulture 2011
conference in Birmingham.
