I'll leave others to make suggestions about the data structure, but
for the Office suite, perhaps you might consider LibreOffice which is
an independent, OpenSource (free as libre and gratuit) development
from OpenOffice. It does exactly the same as M$ Office, but in a more
ethical way. Calc is the equivalent of Excel and Base of Access.
