We need to pull some things together about the CLUSTER node type to
start with, so that we can figure out how to deploy it. Here are my
notes. I'd be looking for all the documents that told me things like this:
1) What is the purpose of the new node type? How does is it augment or
replace existing functions of the current grid software at our site?
Note: Chris Brew gave a talk on some of these matters, here:
http://hepwww.rl.ac.uk/sysman/nov2008/talks/Clusters,%20SubClusters%20and%20Queues.ppt
The work is based on the “Traylen Proposal”, which gives (I expect) a
low-down on the architecture. I need a link for that.
2) What are the implications/advantages of using the CLUSTER node type
at our site? Any disadvantages? Are there any risks that we should know
about?
Note: Some of that is in Chris Brew's talk, but I need more
definition/specifics. Anybody got any tips? Has anyone implemented it
yet, and do they have any notes or comments?
3) How do we build the CLUSTER node type? What do I need to do to my
current nodes (SEs, CEs, BDII, ... ) to make them interact with the new
CLUSTER node type.
Note: I think some of this is explained here, here and here, but I'm
looking for more detail:
https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/LCG/Site-info_configuration_variables#CLUSTER
info_configuration_variables#CLUSTER
http://glite.cern.ch/R3.1/sl4_i386/updates/70/
http://glite.cern.ch/glite-CLUSTER/
4) Is there anything else I need to do to make any other site aware of
and/or interact with the CLUSTER node type? Are there any special
measures I need to take when deploying the node type?
Note: scant on this. Anybody got any tips? All this information is
available somewhere, although it may be just in someone's head - I could
do with some slides from the developers to tell me how the “knee-bone
connects to the leg-bone” etc.
Cheers for any help,
Steve
