DAAD GERMAN STUDIES SUMMER SCHOOL FOR POSTGRADUATES

INVITATION
The inaugural German Studies Summer School for postgraduates will take
place in Edinburgh from 31st May to 03rd June 2011. The summer school
will bring together international postgraduate researchers from across
the humanities whose work relates to German Studies: German literature
and culture, social and political sciences, history, cultural and media
studies, music, philosophy and linguistics. This year’s conference theme
is “Stimmungen: Moods, Climates, Atmospheres”, and contributors come
from across the UK as well as the Cluster of Excellence “Languages of
Emotions” from the Free University of Berlin. Keynote speakers will be
Mary Cosgrove (Edinburgh), Steffen Lepa (Berlin) and Friederike Reents
(Heidelberg).
The four-day meeting will comprise panels with research presentations,
career planning seminars and research training workshops, with guests
Professor Sarah Colvin (IGS), Dr Andreas Hoeschen (DAAD, London), and
Consul General Wolfgang Mössinger. The summer school is run by a
consortium of the Universities of Edinburgh, Nottingham, Manchester,
Leeds, Oxford, Birmingham (IGS) and the IGRS London. It is open to
postgraduates based anywhere in the UK, and is funded by the DAAD. There
will be a conference fee of £50, but participants will receive free
accommodation and food for the duration of the event; travel costs to
and from Edinburgh will be reimbursed. The number of participants is
