I am not sure I understand where your confusion comes from.
Ennis 2006 gives very explicit formulae for the mode. For example, equation 9 is very explicit indeed!
Or is your question about how to relate the formulae in Ennis 2006 to the ones used in the script? It is just a matter of doing some algebra to rewrite everything in terms of the eigenvalues.
