The National Library of the Netherlands, The Hague
May 9, 2010
The International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC) is holding a
day-long public event May 9, 2011 at the KB, the National Library of the
Netherlands, in The Hague. "Out of the Box: Building and Using Web
Archive Collections" will be an opportunity for curators and creators of
web archives to show off the contents of their collections through
stories, illustrations and demonstrations and discuss their collection
policies. Researchers and users of web archives will also present and
discuss their needs and expectations when approaching a collection of
archival web sites.
Who should attend? Curators, researchers, administrators, and others who
are interested in the collection, preservation and access of web
archives for academic, cultural heritage or research purposes.
Program Highlights
1) *Collection Treasures*: Highlight how web archives complement and
provide continuity to other traditional library and archives
collections.
2) *Web Archiving short stories*: Anecdotes, experiences, and stories
about web archives and how they are collected. The goal is to show
diversity and value in collections through short concrete examples and
stories.
3) *Using Web Archives*: Researchers and users of web archives will
showcase their projects, initiatives and work. It will be an opportunity
to learn the methods researchers use to answer questions in web archives
but also to discuss their vision and needs for the future. Researchers
and curators will join in a panel discussion at the end of the day to
discuss how web archives can be designed to better serve researchers.
Attendance of this one-day event is open to all and free to attend.
