Dear Katheryna,
This looks like a great event - well done!
You need to be careful with language though. You refer to "sustainable and cost effective development of land including greenfield, brownfield and contaminated land sites"
(a) I presume you are not suggesting that cost effectiveness is an independent parameter to be evaluated outwith any sustainability appraisal?
(b) Equally since sensu stricto contaminated land is designated on the basis of its current land use it is not usual to be developing contaminated land per se. Land contamination is of course a material consideration for the development of land.
(c) As for brownfield this is a term that has been much abused in the UK (and specifically England) over the past decade and I would encourage colleagues to coalesce around the CABERNET definition which has been adopted by the World Bank and is used to inform EU structural fund allocations:
CABERNET (www.cabernet.org.uk) has defined brownfields as sites which:
have been affected by former uses of the site or surrounding land;
are derelict or underused;
are mainly in fully or partly developed urban areas;
require intervention to bring them back to beneficial use; and
may have real or perceived contamination problems
Hope the event on Wednesday is a big success,
Paul
