Inter-disciplinary workshop on Mobile technologies to support an ageing
population: potential, challenges and visionš
http://imagination.lancaster.ac.uk/MobileTechAgeing_Workshop2011/
Workshop at MobileHCI 2011, Aug 30Sept 2, 2011, Stockholm, Sweden.
Important Dates
* Submission deadline: April 10, 2011
* Notification of acceptance: May 15, 2011
* Camera-ready manuscript: May 30, 2011
Workshop Overview
The ratio of older people to the entire population is steadily growing,
while the ratio of younger age groups, especially the working population
(including healthcare workers) is shrinking. This demographic trend makes it
necessary that the more traditional approaches to care and healthcare
provision for the older people are evaluated. There is a need to explore how
developments in mobile technology and HCI can benefit our ageing population.
This is also driven by initiatives towards extending the independence of
older people and encouraging more care to be delivered in the home and in
the community.
The aim of this proposed workshop is to bring together researchers and
practitioners working in diverse fields of design, use, evaluation and
development of mobile technologies specifically aimed at making life easier
for an ageing population. The workshop will address relevant and contextual
issues at the intersection of mobile technologies, HCI and developing
services and care for the aged.
Call for Papers
Please submit a position paper (2-4 sides of A4) formatted according to the
MobileHCI 2011 Archive Format (http://www.mobilehci2011.org/node/47) to
Pragya Agarwal: pragya.agarwal[at]lancaster.ac.uk
Themes and topics with further details are available on the workshop
website.
The delegates can also submit demos or other interactive material in
addition to the position papers. At least one author of the accepted papers
must register to the workshop and the conference.
Who should attend?
We hope to attract a diverse group comprised of researchers, both from CS
and HCI designers as well as healthcare domain, to provide a platform for
meaningful discussion about potential and challenges for this emerging
field, and stimulate sharing of ideas, prototypes and visions for the
future. The workshop would be of interest to researchers in the fields of
HCI and Computing, Mapping, Sociology, Design, Geography, Healthcare,
Architecture and Informatics. We believe these insights can be carried
forward into the future work of all participants.
Outcomes of the workshop
The primary outcome of the workshop is the elicitation and systematization
of the issue from technological as well as social perspective. The position
papers from the workshop will be published as workshop proceedings in a
digital format. By the end of the workshop, we will discuss ways to advance
this research, including the possibilities for future events. Depending on
the quality, character and number of submissions, a special issue of a
journal or a book will be produced.
