Hi Anthony
Just to let you know that I had a PhD student at Royal Holloway who completed last year who wrote his (excellent) PhD precisely on this topic and is now working on the Spaces of Television project at Reading University. His name is William Smart. I've suggested that he get in touch with you, but you should be able to get hold of his PhD through Royal Holloway or the British Library.
Best wishes, Cathy

Screen Plays: Theatre Plays on British Television is a three-year AHRC-funded research project to document British television presentations of plays originally written for the stage and to develop new critical approaches to this work. The aim is to index and explore this central component of programming from 1930 to the present day through a freely accessible database of information about productions, together with screenings, conferences and a book. The project will introduce formal and historical analysis to the discussion of theatre plays on television, as well as a focus on the screen language of television plays. The results of the project will be shared and discussed throughout the research period on a lively public blog.
The research project is looking for a full-time research associate who will work with the project’s Principal Investigator John Wyver. The research associate will be responsible for collecting and collating information about television productions from a wide variety of published and archival sources; entering this information into structured databases; conducting literature and database searches; preparing for and conducting interviews with participants in the history of production of theatre plays for television; and ensuring that results are written up and outcomes are presented to the individual or bodies sponsoring or supervising the research. The research associate will also be expected to contribute to the production of regular blog posts, research reports and publications.
The post holder should hold a post-graduate qualification, preferably in the arts, humanities or social science area. He/she should have a strong knowledge of and proven research experience in either the history of British television or twentieth century British theatre studies.
Excellent IT and interpersonal skills are essential as is the ability to work on initiative and to multi-task. The role will involve liaising with colleagues at all levels as well as with external public figures. The candidate will be required to work at events outside normal office hours.
For an informal discussion on the post please contact John Wyver [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>
