Part-Time Tutors required: Professional Education in Archives and
Records Management by Distance Learning
The Centre for Archive and Information Studies (CAIS) at the University
of Dundee is the largest international provider of distance-learning
education for archivists, records managers and family & local
historians. CAIS offers Masters degrees, doctoral and postgraduate
research opportunities, postgraduate certificates and single course
study for continuing professional development. The programmes attract
students from all over the world. Due to the ongoing development of our
course provision and high student demand additional tutors are now
required.
Applications from experienced recordkeeping professionals are welcomed,
including applications from outside the UK. CAIS would particularly
welcome applications from individuals with knowledge and experience of
the following subjects:
● Recordkeeping theory and its relation to practice
● Family and local history
● Online and user-generated archival cataloguing
● Electronic records
● Ecclesiastical archives
● English Palaeography
● Information Security
Applications from alternative subject areas will also be considered.
Modules are delivered through the University of Dundee’s Virtual
Learning Environment and last seven or 13 weeks. Further information is
available on the CAIS web site at www.dundee.ac.uk/cais
Current tutors have a wide variety of professional backgrounds. Tutors
monitor student progress, mark assignments, provide feedback during the
semester and facilitate online discussion and debate. Teaching can take
place in the evening or during weekends and most current tutors
undertake teaching alongside full-time employment.
Prospective tutors should have relevant professional experience, a
proven interest in research and be committed to furthering education in
recordkeeping disciplines. Previous teaching experience will be an
advantage. New tutors will be appointed Honorary Teaching Fellows of the
University.
Applications must include a CV, a statement of professional expertise
and details of two referees (one of whom should be a current/former
employer). For more information please call +44 (0)1382 385543 or email
