Dear All
We will possibly take on a collection of early 1970's reel to reel video tapes which will obviously need conversion if we want to use them at all. There are about 100 of them and so far all my enquiries have led me to despair because of the enormous costs of conversion. Companies such as Stanley Production and Max Communication charge between £140 and 170 per hour +VAT and even with a discount, it would still be very expensive.
Recently, I came across a company http://www.avtransfers.biz/index.htm who offer transfer services at just about a quarter of the price of the other companies which makes me wonder why? They do sound trustworthy on the phone although it was not conclusive whether they can restore/improve deteriorated tapes if needed.
My question is if anybody of you has used or heard about this company and/or can give me an advice on how I could keep the costs down. I am also not sure about the format I should use. What is regarded as the most sustainable format at the moment? Would it be safe to opt for a digital format along with a hard copy (DVD)?
Thank you!
