Dear all,
A friend and former fellow colleague has been strongly motivated to do
something positive in response to the emails we have received through
this mailing list in recent days. As so many of you were also moved to
try to help, and she is not yet a subscriber, she has asked me to pass
her message onto you as a way of reaching those who are interested. If
you would like to respond, please email Cosanna directly (cc'd) rather
than via the mailing list, to avoid filling everyone's inboxes.
Having said that, I do think that the exchange of emails over recent
days has been extremely interesting, profoundly moving and in some
cases very very distressing, and I have also read with interest the
subsequent thoughts on the 'anthropology of the mailing list' as one
recipient termed it. Both personally, and (of course) as an
anthropologist, I value all the perspectives offered and respect the
rights of each person to voice their opinion, so I hope this continues
in the future.
Best wishes to all
Melody

Dear all,
I have seen the coverage on GlobalHerald and passed it around Twitter
with good support and people passing on the message. I understand
Amnesty has done a report and that many journalists have been
approached. I have a suggestion that we could throw up a blog and put
these posting there so they can be accessed by the public. All future
posts could also go up there. It's free and easy to set up. We can all
drive people to it via email and social media and we can all draw on
our networks to do the same and hopefully go 'viral' or get more media
attention. Maybe we can get conversations going with Amnesty and
others as well? As I see it one battle is to capture a piece of the
world's attention in these troubled times and hope that int'l
attention can be translated into productive pressure.
I am happy to help with this if this is a way people would like to move.
I know I am new to this group and admit I know very little about the
crisis but I do have some limited experience in communication and tech
and ultimately have solidarity. If any or all of this can help please
let me know and I'm happy to help take it forward.
