Research Associate in Pharmaco-epidemiology
School of Community Based Medicine
Closing date: 05/04/2011
Reference: MHS/11802
Applications are invited for a post in Pharmaco-epidemiology to work on a European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD) funded project to develop complex modelling approaches to investigate the links between diabetes, diabetes treatment and cancer risk. The 3 year project, via this role, brings together methodological research excellence in the School of Community Based Medicine with excellence in obesity and cancer research at the Manchester Cancer Research Centre and Christie NHS Foundation Trust. The vision of the project is to develop predictive models for the development of common cancers, many of which occur with increased risk in patients with diabetes, leading to better targeted surveillance and more accurately informing treatment choices. Innovations in using novel modeling approaches, such as Bayesian latent analysis, will be studied. This is an exciting opportunity to advance diabetes and cancer epidemiology and realize patient benefits through the models produced.
You will provide expert epidemiological and statistical analyses within the project team and take a major role in writing papers and presenting research findings.
You will be educated to higher degree level, have experience of epidemiological research in an academic or industrial environment, and have strong biostatistical knowledge and skills. The post also requires the ability to work effectively within teams to achieve timely and valued objectives as well as a strong track record of substantial contributions to research achievements.
