A society in which our lives and choices are enriched by an understanding of statistics
Launched on 20.10.2010, the first UN world statistics day, the getstats campaign is set to change the way people think about statistics. Our aim is to make sure many more of us are comfortable with statistics and can see the benefits that they can bring to our lives. We need to know and trust in good statistics and recognise when they are not, because knowing enough about statistics makes them work for us.
Thanks to funding from the Nuffield Foundation the Royal Statistical Society now seeks a high profile getstats director. We are looking for someone with quantitative skills in their own right, who is already highly respected and experienced in bringing about change at national institutional and political levels and is committed to the aims of the campaign. They will exercise strong leadership outside the RSS, bringing together various groups which affect and mediate the story of statistics within schools and universities, in the media, among elected representatives and within bodies representing employers.
The getstats campaign will have real impact on how society perceives and uses data and statistics. To support the successful candidate the RSS has a project team and a highly experienced campaign Board as well as the full backing of our Council. Many of our work programmes already support the goals of getstats, but the Director role will also seek out and coordinate new opportunities both for the RSS and in collaboration with our partner organisations.
This role is initially available for two years with a possibility of further extension. Salary up to £65,000: time commitment may be negotiable.
A job description and further information about getstats are available on the Society's website at www.rss.org.uk/about/jobs <http://www.rss.org.uk/site/cms/contentCategoryView.asp?category=250##getstats> .
To apply please email a current CV along with a covering letter describing how you meet the criteria in the job description to Dr Martin Dougherty, Executive Director ([log in to unmask]). For an informal discussion about this role please contact Dr Dougherty on 020 7614 3919
Closing date for receipt of applications: 12:00pm on Monday 4 April 2011.
Interviews will be held later in April 2011 and we are looking to appoint as soon as possible.
