I wonder if anyone can answer some queries or point me in the right
direction.
How do you deal with the administration associated with crb checking.
Are arrangements centralised? Devolved? a mixture of the two? other?
What are the staffing levels and grades involved?
What volume of checks are undertaken in a year?
Does the crb check include translation of documents from other languages
into English?
At Sussex we are currently taking stock of crb checking arrangements,
hopefully this will
be lighter touch under anticipated proposed changes from the Government.
Setting aside staff employment, which clearly falls within Human Resources,
we are considering
how best to allocate the admin associated with crb checks for our various
activities,
which fall within the following three main categories:
A) legitimate activities relating to curriculum (e.g. research relating =
to academic courses that
are part of the University of Sussex (UoS) initiatives. Currently some of
our academic departments
undertake the crb checks, and the rest is undertaken by our Careers and
Employability Team;
B) legitimate activities relating to extra curriculum UoS initiatives for
developing relevant skills for students.
Our Careers and Employability Team undertake crb checks for this
C) Adhoc activities not related to A or B above i.e. not part of a UoS
initiative and typically to do with a
student undertaking part time work for a third party (e.g. social care
providers). We think that third parties
should undertake crb checks for this category
