I am writing on behalf of the University of Salford because we are considering changing the way in which Board of Examiners operate and we would like to know how they operate in different universities.
Does your University operate with a single or double tiered system?
If your University operates with a double tier system, how does this work?
Do the first and second tiers both sit within the School or department? Are both tiers held at School / departmental Level?
If not, where do both tiers of the Board of Examiners sit?
Who chairs both tiers of your Board of Examiners? Is there an independent chair from outside the School / department or is the chair from the School?
What is the role of External Examiners in the process? Do they sit at the first, second or both tiers?
What are the timings of the two tiered process? Does the first tier, the module board, sit in the knowledge that the second tier, the progression/award boards, will sit within a rigid timescale after the first tiers decision(s)?
If yes, what is that timescale? Are the schedules for the two tiers set by a central body or within the School / department?
If you are able to respond to these questions I am more than happy to share the final outcome.
I’d be grateful if you could respond by Tuesday 29 March.
Regards,
Patrick Clark
