Forwarding this from a cultural studies list. Intrigued ...
Dear Sir/Madam
Peter Snell and I produced and directed a film called The Wicker Man some thirty
years ago. Just before Christmas we completed a film in the same genre based on
my book Cowboys for Christ that is set on the Scottish borders. We have called
it The Wicker Tree. Cowboys for Christ will be re-published under that title
shortly. I am writing today to see whether you would be able to confirm that you
would like our distributors to locate The Wicker Tree in a cinema near you and I
would be very grateful for your response. If it would be of interest to you and
your students I am preparing some interactive material, which refers to both
films and the somewhat original genre they constitute.
I would also introduce The Wrath of the Gods, which we are now preparing to
shoot in Iceland, Quebec/Canada and the UK. It will be the third film in The
WIcker Man Trilogy. My belief that you may be interested in these developments
is based on my experience of introducing a symposium given by Dr. Benjamin
Franks and his associates at the University of Glasgow in 2006. More than a
great many other films, The Wicker Man seems to promote interest not only in its
subject matter of Paganism versus Christianity but also in many other aspects of
metaphysical belief.
If you will look at our website www.thewickertreemovie.com you will see that
there has been already a great flurry of interest provoked amongst The Wicker
Man's fans. Although The WIcker Tree has a very different plot from its
predecessor, it does use songs, eroticism, vibrant music and ultimately, horror
to tell its story. Distributors often prove nervous about a film which follows
so many strands of modern life but audiences appreciate being treated as adults
with wider interests in a story other than answering - Is it comic? Is it
romantic? Is it horrific? Is it musically inspiring? Ultimately, we aim to have
our audiences experience all those aspects of real life and yet have an
entertaining burst of horror at the end that they will remember for some time.
I hope you will respond to this email and let us know if you would like to see
this film at a cinema near you. My email address is [log in to unmask]
Yours sincerely
