The SPA executive is looking for a shadow treasurer from July 2011 onwards. The current postholder will step down in July 2012 and we would like the new treasurer to shadow for a year prior to taking over.
Please see below for a job description. Just to add that the SPA employs an accountant, so we are looking for someone who has a good understanding of finances rather than an expert in accounting. The SPA executive is meeting four times a year and there are opportunities to get involved in other work of the SPA depending on the interest and availability of the new shadow treasurer.

*TREASURER*
•to act as a Trustee for the SPA and liaison between the executive committee and the SPA accountants (currently based in Nottingham University)
•to present interim overview reports of the financial accounts of the SPA to the Executive Committee. These are prepared in advance by the SPA's accountants and the main duty of the Treasurer in this regard is to give an overview report of the accounts and not to prepare the accounts themselves.
•to advise and support the plans of the Executive Committee with respect to present and future strategies
relating to the association's income and expenditure
•to provide the SPA accountants with all up-to-date information on expenditure (as detailed in cheque books) and bank statements in order for the SPA's accounts to be examined annually by an independent examiner (arranged by the accountants)
•to present on the behalf of all the Trustees an annual financial report to the SPA's AGM on the association's income and expenditure for the previous financial year. The financial report is prepared by the accountants and distributed beforehand to the annual SPA conference but needs to be discussed with them before the AGM.
•to liaise with other executive officers of the SPA, particularly the Chair, Secretary, membership officer, small grants officer and conference organisers. With regard to the latter, the Treasurer needs to act as liaison between the conference organisers and the SPA accountants in order to ensure that the conference accounts are produced in time and forwarded to the accountants.
• to receive and check invoices requesting payment from the SPA and issue cheques as appropriate
- to manage the SPA's Paypal account, with administrative support from The Lavneham Group, and liaise with Paypal as needed regarding membership payments
•to liaise with The Charity Commission as needed regarding the charitable status of the SPA
•to liaise with The Lavenham Group as needed regarding the SPA contract with them
•to be signatory on the bank accounts of the SPA and to liaise with the bank in this regard
