Sociology and Social Policy, The University of Southampton – postgraduate research
The University of Southampton welcomes applications from students who are interested in pursuing postgraduate research in either sociology or social policy. We are particularly interested in applications from students who wish to undertake research in areas of quantitative sociology or social policy, or who wish to pursue interdisciplinary research in the areas of health and wellbeing; energy, environment and resilience; or the social/computational interface, but we also welcome applications from students who wish to undertake research in areas that are directly associated with other staff research interests.
Our pathways in sociology and social policy have recently been recognised by the ESRC as part of the Southampton Doctoral Training Centre in the Social Sciences. Southampton is one of only 12 institutions in the country to have a single-institution DTC. The DTC will provide training in 19 disciplinary and interdisciplinary pathways, several of which have close connections with sociology and social policy.
Sociology and Social Policy forms part of the Social Sciences Academic Unit, which is located in the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences. The University will shortly be advertising up to 75 funded studentships across the Faculty as part of its commitment to expand opportunities for postgraduate research in all areas of activity.
