Research Assistant: "CHI+MED: Stakeholder Engagement and Evaluation"
Applications are invited for a research assistant post as part of
CHI+MED (www.chi-med.ac.uk). CHI+MED is a major EPSRC funded
multidisciplinary research programme across 4 universities that aims to
improve the usability and safety of interactive medical devices. The
post is based at the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer
Science at Queen Mary, University of London under the supervision of Dr
Paul Curzon (www.eecs.qmul.ac.uk/~pc/) of Queen Mary.
The successful candidate will undertake research in the area of public
and stakeholder engagement, evaluating the effectiveness of the wider
CHI+MED public and stakeholder engagement work, collecting and analysing
qualitative and quantitative data and writing up the results. They will
undertake stakeholder and other public engagement activities to trial
approaches and investigate their success. This includes writing
accessible material and giving talks, including to school students, to
promote the aims of the programme.
Applicants for the post will need a PhD in a relevant subject or
equivalent professional experience. They will need to demonstrate a
strong background in evaluation including quantitative and qualitative
research methods. Relevant experience in public engagement activities is
also required together with a clear interest in making medical devices

The post is full time and for 30 months in the first instance (starting
from 1 May 2011 or as soon as possible thereafter). Starting salary will
be in the range £30,350 - £33,794 per annum inclusive of London
Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, final salary pension
scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the
UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006.
