Interesting.
I know it is unwise to link extreme weather events to climate change, but I
would have thought that "the public" might make the connection and might see
"once in a lifetime" floods in Australia, for example, as just possibly
related to the climate.
It is hard to think of any other reason, beyond bad survey design, why
opinions are as volatile as the numbers you quote suggest.
Of course, no climate scientist would turn around and say "that proves it"
but can, or should, the research community use these weather events in the
"sustained effort by climate researchers to engage more fully with the
outside world" that you rightly call for?
On your call to action, shouldn't the whole research community join in the
fun?
The Climate Science Rapid Response Team sounds like a good idea, but do you
think that the likes of Delingpole (boy didn't Nurse make him look silly?)
will use it?
Let's hope that they will, at least, consult the rather fine looking set of
"Resources".
