Hum, slightly daunted by the idea of being some-one's hero. But thanks for the flattery, anyway.
In the spirit of humility, I can't take all the credit for OpenLearn's RDFa work. I was guided by Nathan Yergler from Creative Commons on exactly what to put, where to put it and how to put it there.
I'm never a great fan of the "build it and they will come" mentality - surprisingly perhaps, as I think that's pretty much what we did with OpenLearn and LabSpace in particular. But in the case of metadata, I've been surprised/horrified as to how popular it is! I think it probably helps if your OER site has a high profile, and then people start asking how to harvest your metadata. They always have their pet format, so its nice to be able to give them a list of options (RDFa, RSS, OAI with DC and/or LOM) to pick from.
