Hi Dawn
We do have an on site chiropodist but on an ad hoc basis. Employees pay for the service directly to the chiropodist at a cost of £16 per session. It is not subsidized by the company as we have an onsite physio and the company pays full cost for this service. The rationale is Musculo-skeletal Disorder problems are more prevalent than feet issues even with wearing safety foot wear.
Cheers H

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] CHIROPODIST
Hi All,
I would appreciate your help.
I have a chiropodist that I inherited when I started last year. I was under the impression that employees generally paid for their own treatment and were able to access the service in work time so a win win for them.
However now have found out that he started coming on site over 4 years ago and has gradually increased his list to an average of 10 people per week and the company pay for them.
As I had bigger things to sort out first have only just got to start to look at this.
I have also found out he is not registered with the Health Professional Council so although we pay a free first level into a EAP employees can't be reimbursed. Until I asked no one had got a copy of his public liability insurance either.
So questions-
1- Does anyone else have a regular chiropodist on site?
2- If yes what is your procedure for referral/ risk/need to see?
3- What services do they give and how do you get feedback on the people he sees?
4-What is the approx cost of a chiropodist throughout the UK for a standard consultation?
5- What do we all feel is a fair 'assessment' of a work related need to see a chiropodist?
My experince is I have never seen a reglaur chiropodist on site in any OH role I have had before (15years). I know that outside work to see a chiropodist on the NHS is hard and only for specific health issues ie diabetic and if lucky only approx 6 monthly.
Just want to bench mark to be fair to employees etc but the cost could be better used as a proactive pot for health promotion in my opinion.
Employees can still access this service via their EAP which we run and they get 75% reimbused. If any major issue we should be looking at the PPE ( if thats the issue) and deal with route cause. Happy to pay for those wth real issue from wk related problems.
Any thoughts.....anyone????
You lot have great ideas so hope you can help.
Dawn
