Dear Colleagues
Please see posting from Professor Pat Brodie. A web address is below for further information.

Dear midwifery colleagues
I have been working with colleagues in the World Health Organisation and the Papua New Guinea National Department of Health for a major part of the past year. It is with great anticipation that I forward you a job recruitment advertisement that represents an outstanding opportunity to use your skills and expertise in a culturally challenging setting. As one part of a major co-ordinated national emergency response to high rates of maternal and infant mortality and morbidity in PNG, you will be part of a team of eight midwives and two obstetricians who will each work in one of four settings across the country with a focus on improving midwifery education and practice. An attractive package of terms and conditions has been developed including accommodation, security, regular home leave and financial remuneration. There will be good support with regular linking up for all involved in the project via the internet as well as face to face meetings. We are casting the net quite widely to include midwives who can communicate, facilitate others' learning and work in respectful culturally appropriate, supportive ways. Maybe this is you?
Full details are available on the JTA website - www.jtai.com.au Go to International Development Section
Please forward this on to any registered midwives whom you think may be suitable and interested.

TERMS OF REFERENCE – CLINICAL MIDWIFERY FACILITATOR
OVERVIEW
To work with and assist the clinical and academic teaching staff to integrate and improve the standard of midwifery practice and maternal health care, clinical teaching and learning experiences of midwifery students, including achievement of regulatory and professional practice standards.

JTA International on behalf of the Papua New Guinea Capacity Building Service
Centre (CBSC) - an Australian Government, AusAID initiative, is seeking eight
(8) Clinical Midwifery Facilitators to support improvement in the standard of
midwifery education and practice as a part of improving maternal health care in
Papua New Guinea.
Working in pairs across the four university-based midwifery schools, each position
will work with PNG midwifery educators and clinicians, obstetricians and other
health care workers to enhance midwifery education and practice and to facilitate
improved standards of care. These positions will be located in Port Moresby,
Madang and Goroka.
The ideal candidates will have:
• Current registration to practise as a midwife in Australia, New Zealand or the
United Kingdom
• Currently or recently engaged in midwifery practice and/or maternal and
newborn health care
• Demonstrated skills as a midwifery educator, preceptor or mentor
• Excellent communication skills and capacity to work in partnership and
mutual respect in a culturally different practice setting

This is a unique opportunity to work in a challenging and highly rewarding practice
setting whilst making a long-term contribution to health outcomes in PNG. These
roles are compensated at an internationally competitive rate.

JTA International is the Partner Contractor for the PNG Capacity Building Service Centre.
