Special Issue of the SWARM INTELLIGENCE journal
APPLIED SWARM INTELLIGENCE
Submission Deadline: April 30, 2011
Research in computational swarm intelligence has grown at an exponential rate, especially with reference to ant colony and particle swarm optimization. Some research has also been seen in other swarm-based systems such as the E.coli bacteria, bees, wasps, fireflies, and fish schools amongst others. A large number of algorithms have been developed that model such biological swarm systems. While the performance of these algorithms are usually evaluated on standard benchmark problems, much research effort has gone into using swarm-based algorithms to solve a wide range of complex real-world problems.
This special issue of the Swarm Intelligence journal aims to provide a collection of high quality articles applying existing or new swarm-based algorithms to challenging, complex and unique real-world problems. It is expected that articles submitted to this special issue clearly identify the challenges associated with the real-world problem considered, and show why swarm-based algorithms are suitable and efficient algorithms to solve these problems. One objective of this special issue is to address the question of whether there are any real-world problems for which swarm-based algorithms are intrinsically more appropriate, and to gain an understanding of the characteristics of
these problems.
The Swarm Intelligence Journal is the principal peerreviewed publication dedicated to reporting on research and developments in the multidisciplinary field of swarm intelligence. The journal is published quarterly by Springer US.
