You are all invited to attend the MeCCSA Climate Change, Environment and Sustainability Network’s forthcoming event:

MEDIATING ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE: EXPLORING THE WAY FORWARD

Friday 4 March, 2011, Bournemouth University

The symposium will facilitate a debate on emerging and established forms and practices of environmental communication – including climate change, conservation and sustainability. We aim to provide a lively discussion forum evolving around pertinent issues arising from a series of panels, including Global Issues / Local Contexts, Climate Change and Democracy, The Power of the Image, Climate Activism / Citizen Conversations, and Conservation, Media and Pedagogy.

The symposium will take place on 4 March 2011 at 09:00-18:00 in the town centre at The Executive Business Centre, Bournemouth University, 89 Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth, BH8 8EB. Further details about travel and accommodation is available on the website.

THE CENTRE FOR JOURNALISM AND COMMUNICATION RESEARCH
The symposium is organised by the CJCR, which brings together the Journalism Research Group and the Narrative Research Group from within the Media School, Bournemouth University. Launched in 2009, and directed by Professor Stuart Allan, the CJCR represents an array of interests and expertise, and is committed to engage in real-world issues of pressing significance.

THE CENTRE FOR THE GREEN KNOWLEDGE ECONOMY
The Centre for the Green Knowledge Economy (GKE) integrates international expertise and knowledge from a wide range of subject disciplines, which includes ecosystems, economics, media, business and technology. The Centre provides an opportunity to work with local, national and international stakeholders to find ever more effective ways of meeting the pressing challenges of sustainable economic growth, in an era of rapid environmental change.

MECCSA CLIMATE CHANGE, ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY NETWORK
The aim of the network is to strengthen the ability of MeCCSA and its members to respond to and lead the worldwide academic contribution to understanding media, communication and cultural studies where they meet issues of climate change, environment and sustainable development; it will do this by continually encourage MeCCSA and its members to conduct research and seek interventions that account for the sustainability of its impact.

MeCCSA is the subject association for the field of media, communication and cultural studies in UK Higher Education. Membership is open to all who teach and research these subjects in HE institutions, via either institutional or individual membership. The field includes film and TV production, journalism, radio, photography, creative writing, publishing, interactive media and the web; and it includes higher education for media practice as well as for media studies.
