Design, The School of Art, Margaret Street, Birmingham, B3 3BX.

The 4 papers include:
Keynote lecture: David Hemsoll (Birmingham University), ‘Michelangelo,
the Sistine Chapel ceiling, design and intended impact’.
David questions general assumptions that the Sistine Chapel ceiling
design came to Michelangelo as if by some mysterious revelation, and
that the design was in some sense subsidiary to the subject matter.
Sam Hughes-Johnson (BIAD), ‘The impact of the Pazzi Conspiracy (1478) on
Florentine brotherhoods with special reference to the confraternity of
the Buonomini di San Martino’.
The events of April 26th 1478 plunged the city of Florence into turmoil
and had repercussions throughout the Italian peninsula. Sam will
consider how the events of this day impacted on the confraternity of the
Buonomini, to which Lorenzo de’ Medici belonged, as had his assassinated
brother Giuliano.
