Dear Colleagues:
Please consider submitting abstracts to the session SE05 (The Role of HP-UHP Metamorphic Processes in Continent Evolution) in AOGS 2011, http://www.asiaoceania.org/aogs2011 which will be held in Taipei in the coming 8-12 August. The session is a tribute to Prof. Borming Jahn, who has made important contributions on this topic during his career and retired from Institute of Earth Sciences, Academia Sinica last August. Collection of related papers as a special issue in Journal of Asian Earth Sciences is planned. The abstract submission deadline is 15 March, 2011.
We noticed that the 9th IEC will be held in Mariánske Lázně (Czech Republic) from August 6-9, 2011. We will negotiate with AOGS office to arrange the HP-UHP session on 12th August. If you are interested in both meetings, we anticipate seeing you in Taipei.
Best regards,
Tzen-Fu

SE05 The Role of HP-UHP Metamorphic Processes in Continent Evolution
----- A tribute to Prof. Borming Jahn
(Collection of related papers in a SCI journal will be planned.)
Studies of high pressure (HP) and ultrahigh pressure (UHP) metamorphic rocks in subduction/collision/accretion orogens during last 25 years have played an integral role in our understanding of continent evolution. These metamorphic rocks have experienced complex processes through recrystallization, element redistribution and even subjected to partial melting. They were formed in deep subduction of oceanic/continental lithosphere; significant change in thickness, density and mechanical behavior of continental crust has occurred. These changes contribute to deep continent subduction, geochemical recycling, syn- and post-orogenic magmatism, continent extension, formation of high mountain/plateau, and continent amalgamation. Many mineralogical, petrological, structural, geochemical, geochronological, or tectonic studies of HP-UHP rocks and their related reaction kinetics, crust-mantle interaction, geochemical recycling, syn- to post-tectonic magmatism, and geochronology of metamorphic and magmatic processes have been completed. Prof. Borming Jahn has made important contributions during his career to many of these topics. In honor of his academic achievement, we invite contributions related to these topics in order to stimulate continued research of HP and UHP metamorphic processes.
