Event: (How) Will the 2012 Olympics Impact Trafficking in London?
Tuesday, February 15, 2011
7:00 – 9:00 pm
http://www.yphr.org.uk/2011/02/2012-olympics-trafficking-london/
Do major sporting events cause an increase in sex and labour
trafficking? Who could be ‘vulnerable’ to this type of exploitation?
Does the focus on trafficking diminish other human rights violations
that are linked to the Olympics? And how do we have a productive and
honest conversation about trafficking?
Young Professionals in Human Rights (YPHR) is hosting a critical debate
around the question of how (and if) the London Olympics will affect
trafficking. Our aim is to foster a more civil dialogue on the issue of
trafficking by hosting a panel of experts and practitioners who work
within the human rights field.
YPHR has also commissioned three young artists to visually depict the
viewpoints and opinions on the effect the London Olympics will have on
trafficking, which will be used as a discussion tool at the event and in
a future publication.
