Bernard Stiegler thematises shame (and its absence today) alot in his more recent books commenting on the problems of today's program industries and the cultural capitalism they generate. The lack of shame is a symptom of a culture failing to provide credible models of the collective project (ie. nihilism of consumer consumption, financial speculation, environmental destruction etc etc). It is tied up for him with the problems arising from the undermining of superego functioning in individual and collective via the construction of desires for whatever niche you want to be defined in/as. cf, for eg. the Mecreance et discredit series....
